If you’re like me, you haven’t been able to tear yourself away from the Olympics. All I keep thinking is what did we do before DVR?! I am loving watching the athletes compete and seeing history in the making. Although I am undoubtedly pro-Team USA, I have to give a shout out to the host team, Great Britain. It has me thinking of fun ways to incorporate the Union Jack into interior design.

I love the horizontal beadboard painted with a neutral Union Jack and open shelves. This would be a fantastic, budget-friendly update to an older kitchen as it eliminates one of the most expensive components – cabinetry.
Another obvious use for a dash of patriotism in interior design, whether it’s the Union Jack, the American flag, etc. is on painted furniture. I love what Marian, aka Miss Mustard Seed, did with an antique dresser…
This is a great DIY project. Just take a vintage dresser with great lines, sand, prime and paint with your country’s flag…and voilá, a very cool, statement piece of furniture. Custom furniture is one of the best ways to create a unique design for your home.
