As part of SF Design Week, I attended the Benjamin Moore Color Trends 2014 and wanted to share the latest on color forecasting for the upcoming year.
The recurring theme for 2014 is calm, soothing, peaceful walls…moving away from bold colors and restoring a sense of healing through color. Muted blues are strong, such as Benjamin Moore’s color of the year, 806 – Breath of Fresh Air.
I have to admit that I’m still not sold on this color for walls. For me personally, it’s a bit too pastel…too “baby blue”, but the general idea of adding a bit of blue to a grey undertone, with greys having been so dominant for the past couple years, is somewhat refreshing. I also agree with restoring a sense of calm to the home. Our lives are so fast-paced and stressful that I really embrace coming home to a calm, soothing palette.
Another color trend for 2014 is coral. Pinks and oranges have been dominant for awhile, but peaches and corals (a personal fave!) signify committment and a new sense of health. Who doesn’t want that?
Taking all this into account, color is a highly personal preference, so as always, go with what you love, not just what’s current.
