DIY Weekend Projects

What are you up to this weekend?  If you have some extra time, here are some easy, weekend projects that you can do on your own to spruce up your home…

1. Paint

Did you know that paint is the cheapest and easiest way to freshen up a room?  It is the perfect DIY project if you are planning to sell your home or just need a change.  Color really affects the way people experience a space, so you can go darker for a cozy bedroom retreat or lighter to brighten up and enlarge a room.

2. Storage solutions to minimize clutter

If you don’t have room for a true entry foyer or mudroom, try adding a shelf with baskets to create the same feeling and cut down on the inevitable clutter of shoes, bags, umbrellas, etc.

3. Add or replace a fireplace mantel

For the easiest update, you can purchase ready-made mantels at your local hardware store, which you can paint and install yourself.  And then the fun part of accessorizing your new mantel!

4. Artwork

Adding or changing out artwork makes a big impact for minimal effort.  And if you like photography or painting, you can create your own art wall for relatively little cash.  I like taking photographs from my favorite travels and placing them in high-quality frames with substantial white mats, which makes them look cohesive and professional.

5. Cabinet hardware

Adding or replacing cabinet hardware is a simple DIY project that can make your cabinets sing.  I always think of cabinet hardware as the jewelry of the kitchen or bathroom; adding the perfect accessory can take it from blah to beautiful!  Above is one of my favorite splurges – drawer pulls from Serie Rare, a french hardware company that makes the most beautiful hardware.

Have a great DIY weekend!
